There seems to be a rather unfriendly attitude towards China of late. Where does this come from? In Australia, which has done very well in its fight against the Covid-19, the suggestion has been raised to make the Covid vaccinations obligatory. And out of nowhere (or out of the blue) cries came about; ‘Oh are we going to be like Communist China now?’ To my mind to make Vaccinations obligatory by law makes a lot of sense. Don’t we have to have a license to drive a car? Air lines are hinting that travel will only be allowed on planes by people having proof of vaccinations. No jab no plane! It seems a fair exchange. I remember after being born and becoming a toddler my mum knew that no vaccination no kindergarten or pre-school.
I think China did an amazing job of not only pulling hundreds of millions out of poverty at an amazing short time, but now also having beaten the Covid 19 pandemic. I don’t understand this antagonism towards China. We would do well to look at the map and see how much closer we geographically are towards China than the US. We also trade very nicely with China. Let’s be realistic and be good neighbors, make friends! As for the accusation of human rights by China. Let’s look at the treatment of the Australian indigenous and our locked up refugees on Manus and Nauru!

Yes, Uta. China generally is able to quickly act and for what I can tell, the benefit of its people. They don’t seem to pontificate or use the term democracy as an excuse for dragging the chain.
It is astonishing how they are now the biggest economy in the world or close to it and having achieved that in such a short time.

Gerard, I imagine, democracies could work very well, if people were just aiming at being as honest as possible and mostly discarded selfishness to the benefit of all mankind! But none of us is so perfect, right? They say, power corrupts. Possibly, in every system some corruption can creep in. This may apply to religious systems, to communist states, democratic states and also to monarchies.
Well, let’s hope, some kind of peace can be maintained.

I have no problem with expecting people to get vaccines…most people to wear seatbelts, don’t smoke indoors in public, have gotten past vaccinations like the one for polio, wear clothes and shoes in restaurants (Ha!) etc. But, I don’t think “forced” Covid vaccines would work in most countries as some people are so adamant about not getting one. SIGH
The Pollyanna positive person in me, wearing my rose colored glasses, wants to believe people and countries CAN get along. But, the older I get I’ve begun to wonder how wrong I am. SIGH

Yes, I don’t mean to punish those without vaccination but to exclude them from certain benefits. No jab then no Health Care card has lately been mentioned in Australia.

Yet the chapter on their internal, political Machiavellian intrigues is not yet played out, with Mr. Dutton playing the role of the Roman general ; Sejanus, seeking to “gain the purple” by a perverted “marriage” with the far right of the party via military connections…while Morrison plays as Tiberius..always circling the political controversies..not taking responsibility for any of them..enacting his vicious cruelty through his “agents of misery” (favourite ministers) while courting public favour via pork-barrelling and media photo-ops…
Let us just hope that this moden-day “Sejanus” meets like fate at the hands of the self-preservating “Tiberius”…for if ever Mr. Dutton gains control, it will be even MORE mayhem!

Thanks for highlighting the opposing opinion to the tabloid press, Gerard. I hate hearing how it is all China’s fault and not to trust China. The pandemic is here, let us deal with it and work to end it.
As for the Tamil family from Biloela, they seem to be making an example of them. If common sense ever prevails, they will repatriate them to another country, willing and open to accepting them and put Dutton in to detention, where he belongs. So cruel. Yes, The US is paranoid about losing its dominance in the world to China. But, China with its huge population and hard working ethos is of course getting stronger. I don’t know if they want to dominate the rest of the world. They just want to trade and are very successful at it.

If I am to believe my modern history theory on communism, it will only work well if all the world operates under that system. China is softening communism and their leader told his people – it is okay to be rich, which does not really sit with communist dogma. So it may come to pass that China is the next dominant empire, but as we know all empires meet their demise after a time.

It seems that China is dang smart because that was no easy task to get most of the population vaccinated and the virus contained. I wonder if the vaccine was made mandatory? In the USA most people not vaxxed are republicans as evidenced by stats. The red states (repubs) have the least number of vaccinated people.

The difference with China, it being what we are told is a “totilatarian state” and it just says to its citizens..; “Look…we need you all to get vaccinated for the good of the country..now go get vaccinated and THAT’S AN ORDER!”
But of course, in our “democratic” countries, we are told..: “Oh..sure..we’d LIKE you to get vaccinated but it’s not compulsory..so you just make up your own mind about that……of course, until we DO get a vast majority of you vaccinated, you won’t be allowed to visit granny..or she -YOU…the kids can’t go to school or YOU to go freely out and about without restrictions..if at all in a lockdown…you can’t travel or get married with all family and friends present..or bury granny..those sort of little things…but the choice is yours!…THAT’S the difference between us and a totalirian state…THEY..;compell by order….WE..; coerce by blackmail….there IS a difference..

I agree with you Gerard. Just as I believe that mask wearing should have been mandated when it was appropriate, guns should be carefully regulated (a whole lot more regulated the Mary J). This are regulations that keep society safe. The more people on the planet, the more regulations we need. My car must pass safety and emission checks, and I’m forced to insure the car. Same for health related issues and weapons. My stupid opinion.
