Who would have thought that the now well worn mantra of ‘stopping the boats’ still holds Australia up to ridicule in the rest of the world? Those three words meant hell for several thousands of refugees held in off-shore detention for many years now. Australia is flaunting international law that give a right to people seeking refugee status escaping from wars.
How has it been possible for Scott Morrison, and his henchman Peter Dutton, to have hijacked a nation’s conscience and soul for such nasty political point scoring, and for so long! Surely we can’t allow this government (lower case) continue to ignore the public opinion that have shifted to what we once were; a humane nation who cared for others, especially those from war torn countries, especially the refugee, especially those who came by boats.
This coming week the government will again vote on the medevac bill allowing doctors to decide on refugees in need of medical treatment to be evacuated to mainland Australia to get the medical care instead of Peter Dutton who seems to get a special type of pleasure in unhinging refugees to the point of suicide…More than twenty refugees on Manus have attempted or have committed suicide so far.

Many of our Vietnamese migrants came as refugees by boat. The then Fraser government allowed them to stay and they became valuable citizens. The last week really showed the incompetence of our government. Australia voted wrongly last May.

Yes, Gerard…it is outrageous, the behaviour of this and other right-wing governments..and one has to wonder upon that age where once a respected writer or philosopher could write a tome that exposes the cruel wonts or the corruption of a government and people not only listened, but shame and social conscience forced through changes…or at least eased some of the more brutal aspects of govt’..but today, the conservatives, having secured the administration authority of the overseeing bodies of governance, and also placing “favourite sons” into leadership positions of policing and judicial authorities, when the public, incensed by the rorting and cruelty and corruption, go to those same authorities, or a celebrated intellectual like Noam Chomsky write article after article condemning such behaviour, seeking for justice from those oversight authorities is almost a fruitless and disheartening chore as there is nothing there but the smirking face of the strategically placed “consciousness of kind” maates…
I cannot see how we can come back from this pit of decadence without severe judgement brought down upon those perpetrators of such cruelty and blatant injustice…nothing short of something like the mass trials of Nuremberg will suffice…that or some “justice” more summary.

We have freedom of expression and can listen and read what great minds, like Noam Chomsky, have to say but it does not change a thing. We had an election where the electorate had a clear choice. Still, we voted ourselves in a totally corrupt and incompetent government.
This crazy government even wants to change our freedom of religion into the freedom to discriminate. Even all the religions reject that.

Still, we voted ourselves in a totally corrupt and incompetent government. “………..I have written an article and countless Twitter threads on what I see as a deliberate fraudulent election facillitated by the AEC…..NOT that the majority voted in this government…with TWO close-call, one seat majority wins coming from the most unlikely sources of votes, the 2019 election even against the most extreme opinions of a VAST majority of cautious and seasoned political commentators and those most “trusting the odds” bookies..yet they still just scrape over the line in what I have spoken of many times as elections they COULD NOT afford to lose…could NOT afford to lose..neither the LNP or their media and business backers…because of the legion of corrupt and fraudulent activities they have engaged in over the last terms of governance would have brought legal accusations down upon them…
I have many reasons to back my claim…and while I can be sometimes radical to extreme, I do not just make reckless claim in this matter…Clive Palmer’s so-called millions didn’t come from Clive Palmer, I suspect…but cannot prove, but I have yet to see any journalist investigate just where such a sum of money could have been shipped in from, considering Clives assets were frozen in 2018 over the nickel refinery fiasco…and we all know Clive wouldn’t pay even $2 to get his blowsey shirt ironed!
When there are so many unanswered questions, one cannot but suspect the insinuations are closer to the truth than the simplistic explanations.

The freedom to change will have to come from the young. This will have to happen. One cannot grow into disillusionment whereby all is lost and we are left to just simper and grow even older than old.
Helvi used to say that hope is a totally useless emotion not borne out by history of the past. Perhaps she was right.

If hope is the only thing we have then we don’t really have much. If we pursue our goals using reasons we are on a losing wicket. The will of the corrupt is stronger as the good people try to be reasonable.

And also the way it treats its elderly says a lot about a country’s culture. If we think about that issue a bit deeper it seems Australia is very primitive and backwards.
