The good news keeps on coming. Not a week goes past without another Liberal minister resigning. Are they seeing the writing on the wall? Within the next 10 weeks a federal election will be held, and as the weeks go by, the outlook for the Liberals is getting dimmer and grimmer. My prediction is that by around 7.20 pm on election day, Anthony Green will call the election over with a resounding win by Labor. As it is now, the Liberals, are running a minority Government. This would normally result in an immediate election. As it stands now with politics, the Government seems to only sit for a few weeks of the year. It is not a mystery what all those politicians are up to when Government is not sitting. They fly around the world and fatten their own portemonnais. Million dollar share deals are discussed around NYC Spotty Pig’s restaurant where the finest steaks mignon are served with sautéed chanterelles and marinated lupin pods. Fine wines are quaffed, and linen serviettes absorb the occasional burb and moistened sneering mouths.
The exit queue leaving the Liberals includes ex foreign ministers, ministers for defence, refugees, business, environment, and more, with women ministers taking the initiative. As it stands, even if the Status quo remains the government is doomed. At present they are a minority Government. It must be hard to know who to vote for as seats are becoming vacant and in utter disarray. A frenetic search is on for new people to stand for those seats now becoming vacant. On top of it all is the criticism now levelled at the Liberals for being a cosy boys club. Women that do stand the heat of this patriarchal club have to be twice as good and face the relentless bullying of male opposites with their oafish behaviour.
Personally and without rancour. ( Oh well, a little rancour is in order) I so hope for potato head Dutton to lose his seat. It would be the olive in the martini. As for Tony Abbott, he can also get lost in the wilderness of forgotten ministers. He can console himself by listening to Pat Boone’s music or reflect on his soon to be de-frocked friend ex-cardinal Pell.

7,20pm? Aren’t you a tad pessimistic? As the parliament is now after the redistribution they need to win three seats. A hopeless situation as Dutton is a goer. There is talk that he could be moving to a save seat. But nothing will save him.

Yes, scary and sad. It seems like there are some good people who would make good leaders, but don’t seem to want to be caught up in all of the politics of trying to lead. 😦 I am so hoping some will rise out of the next generation who will be the opposite of some of the “leaders” we have now…and that they will be willing to serve.

Yes, Governments and their politicians might well become superfluous. I am happy to see a change of government, just for now.
My dearest wish is for those that are responsible for having kept the refugees locked up to be dealt with in a court of law the same as Pell was dealt with.

There are 4 million tourists coming to Australia each year. They all stay somewhere and all get health services when falling sick.

It’s been an interesting week. Clearly a PM is not in charge. He should go to an election now, he might save a few seats. The bookies have the government losing at least 22 seats at the moment. Labor could have between 92 and 105 seats.
I guess as anything can happen but my guess is the swing will be on very early and the election over about an hour after the east coast close. The the nation can start to heal.

This morning on the ABC it was mentioned that one reason those ministers are resigning before the election is their retirement packages which would be a lot lower if they waited till after the election and in opposition. It is something like $80.000.- a year less in salary which would also lower their superannuation pension. (for life)
Don’t worry, no flies on those canny politicians. It is money!

Yes, Linda, and Australia also has the independence of States as well. Laws are different in each state as are education systems, police forces and scores of other issues. If I commit a crime in a different state to the one I reside in I have to be extradited.
Each state has its own government and each state has its own representative of the English Queen. And both types of Government have a man sitting high up on a throne who keeps saying ‘order, order’, while nobody does.
As for lupin pods, depending on which lupin, they are supposed to have good health benefits. Japanese food that we eat often has those edible lupin pods. One doesn’t eat the skin just push out the pods and they are tasty.

Gez, as much as I loathe and despise the Libnats and the other loony right, (would not cross the road to pee on one if he caught fire) a strong, stable and ethical opposition is essential for good government.
Otherwise we risk the drift into a one party state or the anarchy of a very mixed bag of “independents”.
But the Libnats are doing such a spectacularly bad job at everything, all Labor has to do to win is just show up.
Libnats have melded a complete lack of ideology (beyond an infatuation with profit at any cost) with a mean streak of hypocritical bastardly and boof-headed denialism.
Good grief ! Even a tuck shop requires better management than we’ve seen in Canberra.
I wonder if Angela Merkel is interested in a warm and sunny retirement gig in the South Pacific ? Or maybe Jacinda might like a larger challenge.

I can’t see a Merkel waiting in the wings anywhere. But one lives in hope. Labor in power might throw up a different leader. Albanese springs to mind.
In any case, for us time is of the essence as none of us are spring chickens anymore. Can’t think the last time Helvi and I did some deft pole vaulting. How about you?
In my bowling club half of us are on our final cruise or bowl. Hearing aids, walking sticks/ frames and pace makers are the norm. Sometimes one of us staggers a bit around but someone will discretely steady it and all gets back to yet another bowl and the toilets are very near.
We are brave.

Some of these ministers that resigned may have had quite safe seats. I do not take it for granted that a lot of these seats will go automatically to Labor.
I hope I am wrong and Labor is going to win with a great majority! 🙂

Forestwood, the obsession with the polls is fueled by the media because they like to see themselves as the kingmakers. A longer parliamentary term is probably part of a solution. The Westminster system of government does not lent itself to cooperation among the parties.
