This Australia country is Crook as Rookwood

There we go again. It seems that the refugee swap with the US is under some cloud. Australia claims it needs to cut back on spending. It could save billions by just finally accepting the refugees held on Manus and Nauru  on Australian soil. What seems more logical? The oft repeated mantra of keeping control of our borders is just ludicrous. Can someone point out which country borders us?

Our minister, Mr Dutton, for Torture and Unlawful Detention (TUD) should brush up on his geography. We are girthed by sea and in any case Facebook, Twitter etc. doesn’t respect national borders and makes a mockery of land borders. As it is, the world is becoming borderless. We are supposed to revel in being Australian and associate ourselves with ‘true Australian values’ but what are those values if not the same as those of most civilised countries?  What are Australian values that are so unique?

Treating asylum seekers as sub-human is a festering sore that will keep Australia on the international shame list while it lasts. I can’t possibly dance around a national Australian pride pole while refugees whose refugee status has been accepted are kept detained. They are not illegal and no charge has been levied against even a single person.  They are in their fourth year of unlawful detention.

It seems  likely that the  trade in refugees between the US and Australia will at best limit itself to just a few of the seventeen hundred that are still locked on Nauru and Manus in exchange for perhaps fifty or so refugees from Central America. There are rumours that the refugees on Manus and Nauru have been fingerprinted by US officials. Heaven only knows what must go through those tormented souls? Fingerprinted once again!  The indignity of it all.

Many of the refugees are well educated and sometimes seem to have a better commend of English than their torturing privately funded interrogators. How could we have got it so wrong? I know the answer. We lack leaders that are decisive not divisive. There is our PM Turnbull, grandiosely  slapping himself on the back saying that Australia is the most tolerant, the most successful multi-cultural country in the world. Yes, but what about all that what happened within our child support detention camps. The people employed to look after the welfare of those children asking sexual favours. Suck my dick video has just turned up at the Royal Commission.

How could things go so off the rail?

Milo seems to have an answer. Just look into his all-seeing eyes.

    Re; the oral sex video;

The youth worker/ guard at that time in Don-dale was a Youth JUSTICE Officer. What justice?

What expert qualifications do these child protectors actually hold?

It’s a total embarrassment. Of course these people deserve better, and where better than on Australian soil? Certainly not the uncertainty of being sent to another unwelcoming country.

It is deeply troubling that this Government portrays itself as having humanitarian values while at the same time keep confined hundreds of people who have done no wrong. How come this has been allowed to fester for over three years? And we point the finger at others for treating people badly.
Australia has lost its moral compass with its present leaders.

I am beginning to suspect this whole refugee crisis is a sideshow – a political drama the ruling elite enact for our benefit while they proceed to rob us blind behind the scenes.

It is a show for purely political motives. Ramp up fear about terrorism and then link it to Islam. It always works and people feel protected and will give votes to those that bleat the loudest about terrorism and the evils of Islam and promise protection. That’s why the refugees are being locked up. To appease people that have been whipped up by totally irrational fears.

Our leaders, both Australia and the U.S. are not only weak and inhumane as Leggy Peggy says, but crooked to boot. Cut from the same cloth.

Rookwood Cemetery gave rise to the phrase “crook as Rookwood”, meaning chronically ill, as “crook” is Australian slang for being unwell.
The Rookwood cemetery is a blessing in disguise. A retreat from all that is happening in the world. It has wild greenery and is over 300 ha, almost the size of Amsterdam. One can find peace and solitude become one with the important things in life.
I doubt our leaders would even be allowed in Rookwood.

The whole refugee situation is appalling. Rank and file folk are all sickened by the inhumanity, as well as the obscene cost of keeping the poor buggers in limbo. I read this week of a well educated Iranian woman who has been in Australia for years and has found true love, yet, the storm troopers are going to hunt her down qnd deport her. It’s as though we are living in some dualism world where we all demonstrate and complain and the pollies tell us to f#*+ off.

Shame haunts so many of our countries at the moment, I don’t understand the growing trend towards nationalism. There is little to be proud of in nationhood at the moment.

Nationalism is often a last refuge. Whip it up and people will congregate around deep-felt dissatisfaction which they will then turn around the ‘foreign’. Blame follows, and next you have people baying for Brexit.
