Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has said he is concerned about the plight of asylum seekers in Australian-run detention centres on Nauru and Manus Island.
Mr Turnbull described the Government’s asylum seeker policy as controversial and challenging.
He told Sky News any changes to policy will be carefully considered.
“Our policies will change, all policies change but when we do make changes we’ll do so in a considered way and they will be made by the ministers, myself, [and] the Cabinet.”

So our new PM says, the changes will be made by the ministers, himself and the Cabinet.
I am waiting for what is to come. Even if the changes to the policy have to be carefully considered, I hope it won’t take too long before they come up with considerable changes to an inhumane policy.

Turnbull needs to move and get his cabinet behind him to make changes. He is not a conservative but most of his cabinet are remnants from Abbott era. He has a major challenge ahead. Still, he has a remarkable partner in his wife, Lucy Turnbull who could easily be a PM in her own right.
So, really we have two PM’s and together they are a formidable team.

He has been PM for five days and already he has opened up the whole issue of change by saying, ‘everything is open for discussion and change.’
Certainly, the voters are sick of Abbott’s messages of gloom and doom.

Reading what Turnbull says I wouldn’t expect any major change at all. He’s being so careful I would think any changes would be cosmetic.

The matter of doing something about domestic violence has to also be seen in the context of the Governmental violence meted out to those in indefinite detention on Manus and Nauru.
What example is this Government setting?
Unless Mr Turnbull does away with this barbarism the issue will hang above this new Government’s head like the sword of Damocles.
Those people have done no wrong and our own Guantanamo way of dealing with this is wrong. wrong. wrong.
Cambodia is not the solution.

The combination Abbott and Credlin was fatal. These were not a strong man nor a strong woman. Strength is to be able to change and compromise, to delegate and to grasp and understand another point of view.
I do hope our new PM gets better counsel. However, the caving in to the Manus and Nauru duo of both Morrison and Dutton by changing into ;’they will never come to Australia’ doesn’t auger well.
What happened between Mr Turnbull being ‘concerned about the fate of refugees’ and now taking the uncompromising viewpoint?

At the end of the day its still the same old government with a different leader albeit one with who can communicate. The leopard hasn’t changed its spots but perhaps it direction. Morrison continues in the same line as windbag Joe. I’ve said elsewhere he’ll lead until Christmas then wain. Turnbulls rise looks like an adolescent’s first sexual experience.
I don’t expect any change just a a polished message.
