I was at Monash with Leunig in the late ’60s: he was always going to be like he turned out. It’s all very well cartooning the pot calling the kettle black, but there are visual puns and there are other things. Most know that I’m an ex-Mick atheist; but I don’t think this Leunig is at all witty. However ! – I do agree that the high terrorist alert stuff is TROWC at their best …
I thought the cartoon pretty apt. It might ruffle feathers but Jesus nailed on a cross is a pretty weird image. I know you’re atheist but we all have our own individual ideas about what is witty. That’s how it should be. However, we are on common ground when it comes to Abbott and stuff. That’s the main game, really!
Do people sometimes go into spontaneous or involuntary combustion? Abbott just has that strange pre-combustion look when he walks. Or perhaps he suffers bouts of intestinal hurry..
I’ve just found another great series of Adam Curtis explaining how neoconservatives taught other world leaders to achieve political power by creating terrifying phantoms and promising to protect the masses from them.
One doesn’t have to travel very far in Christianity, or any religion, for that matter, to find abuse of the religion by the religious, and not so religious. Humor helps. –Curt

Excellent Gerard. The big issue is that Abbott is a small minded fool and we need to be rid of him as quickly as possible.
