August is near.

Wollondilly river at Rivendell

Wollondilly river at Rivendell

I received one of those e-mails in my spam box which caught my attention. We are in for a months that has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This happens once every 832 years. Aren’t we lucky? It is August 2014.

The turmoil over the budget is not abating. I wonder if Abbott will go to confession to seek forgiveness for having soiled the most vulnerable; the pensioners, lost tortured souls, and climate change. (If not his pants as well.) How odd that in the budget he decreases funding for the CSIRO, whilst amidst the main crisis that we are faced with; our climate and environment. Not a word about that.

We went for a long walk yesterday. All along a small brook that bubbles parallel behind our unit complex to the main street of Bowral. Milo goes nuts because of his genetic imprint to flush out ducks that hide between the rushes. He knows they are there and pulls my arm off in trying to get to the edge and bark them out. As soon as they take flight he is happy. He doesn’t really concern himself with killing ducks that sit next to the river basking in the sun. Milo is not a killer and even smiles to them.

Where are the genetic imprints in people to flush out lying politicians? What happened to barking them out of office so that they too will take flight over Parliament house towards a pond of reflection over their sins.

There is a good article by Jonethan Green. He used to be the Editor of the ABC drum before the yank Chip Rolley took over.

Have a read!

I took the above photo. (clap, clap.) How do I get rid of that bloody date?

I listen to Jonathan Green on ABC radio on Sunday mornings – I like his voice of sanity. We all need distractions like Milo right now so that we don’t dwell too long on this disgusting Budget. And yes, the Conservatives always hurt the vulnerable. That justifies their existence. Aren’t we lucky they were not in control during the GFC. Instead of Stimulus Packages it would have been CUT, CUT, CUT. They do not seem to realise that by cutting the unemployed, pensioners etc. those people will no longer spend in small businesses. Ah – they do not care about small business – only big business. The date on the photo – in most digital cameras that option can be turned off – you will have to dig into your camera settings to find the option. Alternatively your camera manual should show you how. If you no longer have the manual you will find a copy on line. Best I can do. Great river photo.

    Thanks Rosie.
I looked at the Nikon manual on line and I’ll try and delete that date option when I have scrolled through all the options and confident enough to delete that.
Jonathan Green is very likeable with a gravelly voice and great insight. A joy to listen to.

I thought Australia had a Gov General to flush out the bad eggs! Lovely shot of the river walk Gerard, weep willow weep!

    • M-R Says:

The G-G is never going to do a single meaningful thing again, one suspects, Patti. Not since Kerr, anyway …

    • gerard oosterman Says:

I loved that latest B/W photo of yours Patti. Things must be warming up in N/Y city. There is seething discontent here in Australia. Universities and their professors ready to hurl bricks of protests at the windows of discontent. ( and purple prose)

    • gerard oosterman Says:

      Thanks Patti,
The weeping willows on our stretch of the river had to be poisoned by local shire. Apparently they choke rivers and go wild. As if?
I visited our old farm and am happy to report there are still many willows on the river.

Great post and superb article that you linked to.
I do no think the frequency of the ‘five Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays’ is correct though. It is not that rare and occurs anytime a 31 day month begins on a Friday and that happens about once a year. For example it has happened in Dec 2006, Aug 2008, May 2009, Jan 2010, Oct 2010, July 2011, March 2013

    • gerard oosterman Says:

Yes, you are right. I copied the item directly from a legal friend and accepted blindly as fact it occurs only every 832 years. A bit of a diversion as if things are not happening every day that are unique. We had a mild frost this morning. The first of the year. How rare is that?

No way I’m likely to disagree with a syllable re Mr Rabbit & Co. As for the date thinggy: last week I attempted to do something to the Coolpix via the menu, and have completely stuffed everything. Jesus wept ! – I am so HOPELESS with cameras. Sighh … Nice pic., anyway, Gerard.

  6. Lottie Nevin Says:

Milo and Mr Snout sound very similar – it’s the chase, not the kill. I haven’t a clue how you get rid of the date, sorry. Lovely picture of the babbling brook though 😀

The river water looks murky or dirty. The same way that Australia and the US governements look with all the crooked politicians. In the US it is the same. The chemical companies are running and ruining the environment, mainly Monsanto. There are herbicides and pesticides with the government committing genocide on its own people with a slow death from all the toxins.

Hardly anyone with clout gives a fig about the environment. We are all doomed, Gerard. Plus big business continues to push out the little farmers and ranchers, and small business owners. Frankly, I do not see any hope.

When we stayed in Annaheim (I can’t believe that was twenty four years ago) we were instructed to close all windows overnight as pesticides were sprayed on the surrounding market gardens.

Perhaps they had some Agent Orange leftovers from the Vietnam war.

With new trading agreement we will be all like Americans but can’t vote in the American elections.

Hope went out the windows long time ago.
